Experiences
What happens when you take a country girl, currently living in the suburbs (which has enough people, as far as she’s concerned), and transplant her into a major city for a scientific convention with 80 of her coworkers and 18,000 of her closest friends?
Panic.
One single word, pure and beautiful in its simplicity.
Of course there’s also confusion, disorientation, and exhaustion.
It’s known as DDW (Digestive Disease Week) and it is the largest (as far as this lowly DDW employee knows) convention for gastroenterologists and hepatologists. Also of note is that it is being held in San Diego this year.
Basically, I’ll get to wave at the Zoo as I ride the trolley on my way to work…

Finally December
NaNoWriMo 2007 has at last come to a close, and although I did not ‘win’ by official standards, I did beat my own goal that I had set as well as my own previous best word count from 2005. 26,373 words… Not bad for working full-time, being happily married, and still managing to have something resembling a life. All in all, I’m pleased with the results, and I hope one year maybe I’ll make it to 50,000 (like maybe when I retire).
A few short hours ago I got back from an intense gaming weekend with friends in NYC. There was Wii playing as well as table-top gaming of the Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Mage: The Awakening varieties. It was a blast, plus it was great to see our friends again. Living in different states makes it tough, but thanks to the wonders of Skype and Google Talk, we’re always in touch. And one of them will hopefully be coming to live with us for a time while he finds a job and apartment in the area. That will be no shortage of awesome, since we’ll have plenty of room in the new house!
In other news, Taijutsu training has been rocking hardcore. I’ll see about dedicating my next post to some of the incredible kick-assedness that is Bujinkan.
That’s all from me for now. Peace out!

NaNoWriMo 2007
NaNoWriMo… you’d have to be insane, right? Hell yes! And yes, I’m attempting it again.
I’m already very nearly a full day behind. Oh well. My personal best was about half-way (25,000 words), so if I can beat that and set a new personal record, I’ll be happy. But as always, trying to juggle work, play, training, and writing is not easy.

Doesn’t everyone deserve a little immortal glory?
I think the Greeks may have had the right idea with this. Shouldn’t we all be able to leave our mark on the world, if only to show that we were really here?
